It's been a long time since i've visited 'the site'. Mainly because life is moving on, and although Joshua's cancer is still ever present in our lives, we are also living in the 'now' and although I tell people from time to time about the 'blog'. When
I started it, I started it for Joshua, so that he would have a record of what we went through and so that I can sit him down when he's sixteen and being a stroppy arogant teen that has zero respect for his body; and show him why his Mother is so tough on him.
Here's three things I've learnt about Joshua this year:
1) He's the glue that binds the Gallagher family. He's the biggest personality and he always says 'the right thing'. Even at just six. He tells me i'm beautiful and that he loves me mostest,
every, single, day. He frequently promises, 'that he will always be nice to his younger sister, forever and ever and he is, for at least 20 minutes after he says it. He is his older brothers world, all three kids have a bedroom each now. But two of them are
'play' rooms and the other is 'the sleeping room' they wont be seperated, even to sleep.
2) Joshua, never sticks to one 'blankie' for long. I beleive he'll be the same with women. Daniel on the other hand, will find one girl, like his 'one blankie'
(the blankie that I bought him home from the Hospital in.) and that will be that. Joshua however, who has now done three terms of school, is constantly surrounded by a bevvy aged from 5 to about 75. The little ones 'mother him', report to teacher for him,
help him with his hearing aids and play gently with him if his mates are being too boisterous. The older ones and grandmothers, fuss, encourage, hug, tickle and teach. But one thing is evident at Otonga school, from the Deputy principal, to his two teachers
and Teacher Aide, Joshua has many females wrapped around that tiny little finger. Lest of all his mother.
3) Having Mother wrapped around your finger, Joshua has learnt to manipulate! Twice this year we've had episodes of 'phantom' headaches of the
'I don't want to go to school kind'. We've had trips to hospital for this, one CT and Mother close to the psychiatric ward, twice. but we've learnt from it. There is nothing wrong with that childs brain!!!!!
For anyone who does want more regular 'Joshua'
updates, send me a friend request on FB, we are there all the time. (Annemarie Gallagher (Carpenter))
Till next time :)
